Step One
Our lovely new block is not yet ours. We must wait another month. At that point we settle on the new place and my family and I will move in to the old house while we wait for council to review and permit our plans.
You see, the plans went into council last week and will take 3 - 6 months to review (or so they say), so we had an agonising decision to make; move into the old house or go straight into a rental ($$$) and avoid three moves. As we hope to demolish the existing cottage to build a new home, our local council requires we (or our architect) submit an argument as to why we should demolish even though a heritage overlay exists over the existing home.
In our case, all the heritage elements of the Federation cottage have since been removed so we hope it to be very straight-forward. Even so, we have heard enough horror stories to make the decision to move in while we wait to avoid paying rent. This means that starting in 30 days, I have 3 moves ahead of me. For someone who has moved a lot, this is a daunting proposition but if I am honest with myself, I am very excited about the whole project and just cannot wait to begin.
