Cats and Mice
We buried our lovely feline friend about 8 weeks ago in the backyard of our Merri Creek home. We miss her after 16 years. Unfortunately the mice do not miss her and we have had a sudden outburst of cute (and quite healthy looking) rodents (as have our neighbours) come out of the holes in the kitchen walls.
The hole in the wall where the mice are sleeping.
5 more sleeps (and counting) until we move out.
Other animals that have entertained us at night are the possums. These rather large ones seem to find it amusing to run up and down in the roof cavity at the most inconvenient times. My favourite memory of this lovely delapidated place is the possum trampoline. Above the fridge is wall cavity and the floor of the cavity was hanging down a little. The previous owner mentioned the 'trampoline' but I didn't think anything of it at the time.
However, every night we would push up the piece of wood and every morning it would be lose and hanging down. One night, I heard some disturbances and went into the kitchen to spot a lovely grey variety of possum sitting on the kitchen table. We had a chase around the kitchen and it ended up hanging high on the flywire door. In the end, I just shut the door and in the morning it was gone. Presumably up on the fridge and into the trap-door/trampoline. Needless to say, we quickly nailed it up.
So, now we are onto the next phase. Contract Design finishes shortly and the demolition permit is in progress. We are off to live in a flat with 3 boys and the goofy dog in the hope of watching our dream house come alive over the months.
